Diet Detox For Wellness And Weight Loss

[pullquote_left]A diet detox is about much more that losing weight. It gives you the opportunity to start a new and improved life. By Dr. Roni DeLuz PhD, RN, ND[/pullquote_left] I first met Jamie and Lorenzo during the cold winter months on Dec 26, 2004 on a very quaint, private island called Martha?s Vineyard where the rich and famous come as residents and vacationers to find peace and comfort. As Jamie put it, their long term friendship with Jimmy Hester made them come and Jamie and Lorenzo are glad they did. They both enthusiastically joined me in my quest to help Sister 2 Sister readers who are in search of vibrant health and safe weight loss through body cleansing and healthy nutrition.

Together we can restore and revitalize your body back to its natural state of health and weight. I am committed to healing, educating, and supporting the Sister 2 Sister family and friends. Although the overall health of America is improving, it is discouraging to me that in many categories black Americans are not benefiting from these advances.  The epidemic of obesity is higher among African Americans which compound many health challenges such as strokes, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Lifestyle, stress, and dietary factors play a key role.

So, what is the diet detox?

Detoxing means different things to different people and there are many ways to detox. It simply means giving your body a rest from chewing and giving your body a chance to clean up. The diet detox helps rid the body of chemicals, toxins, and bad food. Very simply, toxins undermine our health and removing them from our bodies is one way to maintain vibrant health and beauty. A body overloaded with toxins can cause a number of symptoms such as stomach bloat, poor digestion, skin problems, fatigue, weight gain, thinning hair, bad breath, bad body odor, depression, headaches, etc. Our bodily systems can only handle so many toxins before it expresses its overload as a disease. What do I eat? Drinking natural vegetable juices that have been extracted from a juicer will provide you with vital nutrients to nourish your body. Green vegetables are especially cleansing and support your oxygenation system. Fresh homemade soup with your favorite vegetables will be an exciting change to your palate. And remember, because you are detoxing you will not be chewing so your soup should be pureed. We also encourage extra green or berry drinks if you do not have a juicer or lack the time to juice.

What about using supplements with Diet Detox

Using the supplements that we meticulously put together enhances the diet detox process. Not only do they assist the cleansing process, they also improve our nutritional status. For example, aloe vera cleanses and alkalizes our digestive system. It has been known to be a great promoter of disease prevention. Another nutrient, Digest-EZ is an enzyme that helps break down nutrients for improved absorption. Can I detox at home? Yes! I believe that wellness starts in the home and that we are our own best health advocates. As an Naturopathic Doctor, Registered Nurse and educator of holistic health, my goal is to make information available and I enjoy the process of information sharing, especially if it empowers us to live longer with a more vibrant and healthy life. I have made this home program easy and accessible through my website. I am also available for telephone consultation. Consult with your physician before embarking on any weight loss diet. Is it safe to lose a pound a day? What?s not safe is being 21 pounds or more overweight. The 21 pound weight loss occurs very naturally. You are actually improving your health by taking maximum nutrition in small doses throughout the day.  Many rapid weight loss programs are dangerous because they deprive the body of the nutrients it needs for good health. This diet detox program has potent vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and probiotics to feed the cells. At the same time, by not chewing, you are assisting your body in starting the cleansing and repair work. How many times a year should I detox? You should detox 3-4 times per year for health reasons. Detoxing should become a way of life. An aggressive detox is 21 days and then you should tune up 7 days per season. That will make it such that you are detoxing 42 out of 365 days of the year. Purchase a copy of the book, 21 Pounds in 21 Days: The Martha’s Vineyard Diet Detox, to learn more. How will I feel during a detox? As we introduce natural superior nutrients in to our body, our eliminative organs begin to release old toxins and poisonous chemicals into our blood stream. As these toxins are thrown into our bloodstream for elimination the body and its eliminating organs are forced to make huge adjustments. As a result a so called healing crisis can occur. This may happen four or five days after starting the detox or it may never happen. Some of the signs of a healing crisis include headaches, body aches, dizziness, weakness, irritability, mood swings, aches and pains, etc. You may even feel that your health is getting worse but it is proof that the detoxification is working and these unpleasant signs are only temporary. You will soon experience an improvement as the body cleanses itself from toxins. When you experience a healing crisis you should not get alarmed but understand that this is part of the process. Closing Remarks Many people look forward to their new lifestyle after detoxing. The last time I saw Jamie and Lorenzo at their 16th anniversary party for Sister 2 Sister, I was amazed. They had maintained their weight and to me their skin was brighter and their energy level was much better. You really feel better about yourself and life in general. It is truly a lifestyle change. Making the transition after the diet detox is not difficult when you start with foods that you feel good about. People used to think that eating healthy limits their options, but it really broadens them. Can you imagine coconut curry vegetables over brown rice? You will find some special recipes in my book, 21 Pounds in 21 Days, for maintenance and great soup choices for the diet detox program.
